Day FiveI informed you during yesterday's journey that we are all conceived with a dead spirit. The body and soul live but we are spiritually dead. That may seem okay to you, a dead spirit, but the reality is disturbing. When you have a dead spirit the consequences are: You have no relationship with God, your creator. You have no fellowship with God. You are an enemy of God. Your life is dominated by your desire to sin. Since God does not influence your life, your life is influenced by Satan and the world around you. You are unable to live a life that is even remotely pleasing to God. And finally, you will not live eternally with God in heaven upon your death.
There are many Bible passages that describe this condition. Here is one: Ephesians 2:1-3. This passage and the understanding given above should disturb you. It disturbs me. I know from our previous journey that God has a purpose for my life. However, now I see that because I am spiritually dead I can never live up to the purpose that God designed for me. It disturbs me to know that I am an enemy of the God who created me and loves me.
Some people say that everyone desires only two things: A place to live and a relationship. If that is true, then the ultimate relationship, a relationship with God is no longer available. Also, the ultimate place to live, heaven, has been removed from us. And all of this is due to a dead spirit. How did the spirit die if it is a part of who we are? It died because of sin. This sin has been passed on to all of us since the beginning of time, since Adam and Eve. Romans 3:23 teaches that every man that has ever lived has had this sin.
What can I do concerning this state I am in? In short nothing. There is absolutely nothing you can do. However, God can do something about it and He has. What is that? Meet me on tomorrow's journey and I will share with you the solution to your dead spirit, to your broken relationship with God.
