It’s All About Dad – Episode 21

In Genesis 1:28, God commanded man and woman to “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

The way we do that, the way we multiply, fill, and subdue, is through the family. You and your spouse are having children and subduing your little half acre in response to God’s command. You see, God created the family to fulfill this command.

Over the next few episodes, we will focus on family. And today, we will focus on family structure and the responsibilities that come with this structure.

I want you to understand one aspect of the family structure – the family is father-centered. God designed family with dad in the middle.

That is your take away. The family is dad-centered. It’s all about dad. Because of that, God has given every dad these important responsibilities.

The Spiritual Leader

  • He models strict personal faith to Jehovah. Joshua 24:15
  • He leads his family to and in worship.
  • He instructs his family in the traditions of the Exodus. Deuteronomy 6:4-9
  • He instructs his sons in the way of wisdom. Proverbs 1-9

The Primary Provider

God puts the responsibility to provide squarely on the shoulders of dad. 1 Timothy 5:8

The Protector

  • He protects himself against sin. Exodus 20:5
  • He disciplines his children when they sin.
  • He protects his daughters against male predators. Exodus 22:16-17

Closing Thoughts

As the spiritual leader of the family, God wants the father to teach his children about salvation. It should be the priority of every dad to see his kids saved. Dads, you need to share with your sons and daughters the truth of Jesus Christ.

You need to tell them the truth of Jesus Christ. Teach them about sin. Everyone is a sinner – Romans 3:23. But the gift of God is Jesus – Romans 6:23. Tell your kids that if they believe on Jesus they will have a right relationship with God, their heavenly Father. And all their sins will be forgiven.

Remember dads, it is your responsibility to live out your faith in front of your wife and kids. Lead your family to church. Make time at least weekly for family worship. And protect yourself and your family from Satan’s attacks.
